Feel free to follow favy!

Sizuya

Sizuya is a bakery in Kyoto founded in 1948. They have classic french bread (baguette, croissant, etc.), but they also have seasonal sweets and sandwiches, and local adaptations! How about a curry and cheese curry stick? Or a white caramel roll? Bread is about ¥150-250. Delicious and reasonably-priced, yes!

Shinshindo has many shops, cafés and restaurants around Kyoto. This particular branch is in Kyoto train station. They have many classics to try, but also some with a Japanese twist. How about a bean and bacon bread, or a banana and walnut crunchy bread? One of each please!

Paul

Paul is a French bakery with branches all over the world. Their bread hence is a lot more French-style than the other ones, and their bread too; the baguette is crunchier and croissants are top-notch. You should try their baguette sandwiches too, they're really awesome! This bakery is slightly pricier, but it is well worth it if you miss French bread!

Café Boulangerie Marche

Cafe Boulangerie Marche is a tiny little Japanese bakery with a lot of sweet and savoury breads to choose from. It's close to the JR station so it's a great place to grab breakfast or snacks on the way to the bamboo forest or the Tenryu-ji temple. Breads starts at around ¥150. How about some red bean paste bread or chocolate bread!

Flip up

Flip Up is walking distance from Karasuma Oike station, or Marutamachi station. This tiny bakery sells a delicious variety of bread. They are especially famous for their bagels and sandwiches, but honestly everything they make is great. You need to try their chocolate bread! Their breads are around ¥150.

Tamakitei

This bakery is in Uji, a few minutes walk from Obaku station. It is not in Kyoto city, but it is worth the small detour!! This beautiful and rustic bakery has a wide variety of delicious bread to try! Their baguette is crisp on the outside, and moist on the inside; it's everything you want a baguette to be! But what I love most is their Japanese take on French classics: how about some roasted green tea bread or red bean bread?

Pâtisserie au Grenier D'or

Au Grenier d'Or is more of a patisserie and Salon de thé (tea house) than a bakery, but it was worth mentioning too! It is located in the Nishiki Market in Kyoto. They have incredibly beautiful and delicious sweets. Sitting in Au Grenier d'Or, you have a view on their delightful garden. Have you tried their vanilla soufflé? Yum!
