Cheap Eats Tokyo: Chuka Soba at Hidakaya
Looking for something tasty to eat on a small budget in Tokyo? When it comes to cheap eats in Tokyo you can't beat a big bowl of hot ramen! If you're like me a need the occasional cheap chinese food you're in luck! Read on...
Feel free to follow favy!
Hidakaya a budget friendly ramen chain, serving up Chinese style ramen, gyoza, stir-fries, chuka soba and much more. There are lots of locations all across Tokyo, and even the Kanto region, so you're bound to come across a few when wandering around Tokyo.
Beer starts at 310 yen making it a perfect place to grab a cold one while you wait for your meal.
And you may as well grab some gyoza while you're at it. When they only cost 210 yen for 6 it shouldn't be a question!
The main event!
Now here's the main reason why I'm introducing this place - chuka soba. It's only 390 yen! Chuka soba is a little different from most ramen bowls you'll eat; the noodles are a little more thicker and have a slightly different texture. The broth is a soy sauce base but is extremely tasty for the price!
Other ramen to choose from...
If you're after something a little different or need a little veg in your diet then try the vegetable tanmen. It's ramen piled with Chinese-style veges on top. Delicious and only 500 yen!
They also have the standard tonkotsu (Pork base soup) ramen. Definitely a rich and savoury flavoured soup! Only 420 yen!
Hidakaya also run a special menu throughout the year coinciding with different seasons and festivals. This sakura shrimp ramen is a little bit different, it doesn't have any soup! It contains a very rich jus mixed with a little oil which you stir through the noodles. It's really good!
One of my favourite things about summer in Japan is hiyashi chuka soba (literally cold chinese noodles). It's kinda like ramen but serve cold with a tasty broth and topped with sliced cucumber, egg, ham, and seaweed. Make sure to try it!
Now, if you wanna try a bit of everything they also have a couple of meal combos. This one here is a chuka soba set with half size fried rice and 3 gyoza. Prices start from around 600 yen depending on what you choose.
There's also a few stir-fry dishes to choose from too if you've been "ramen-ed out" over the last couple of days, or if you're out to try something different. The fried liver is pretty tasty and servings are pretty decent in size.
What you waiting for?
So next time you're looking for a cheap place to eat in Tokyo try out Hidakaya and get that chuka soba in your belly!
