Brand New Meat Experience: Try Rose Shaped Roast Beef Bowl at Gabu!

Roast beef bowl is a new trend in Japan. We heard that there is a restaurant that has won championships at "Japan's Best Don (bowl) Grand Prix" for three years in a row where they serve rose shaped roast beef bowl in Musashi Koyama, Tokyo, so we went to try their delicious Gabu-don with rose shaped roast beef!

Feel free to follow favy!

"Gabu" is a western style restaurant that is located on a street of quiet residential area.
Around a 5 minute walk from Musashi Koyama station, if you see a door with a fish shaped window, you're on the right track!

Let me just warn you. What awaits you inside cannot be described by words - it will stay in your heart and you will dream about their delicious roast beef bowl forever.

We ordered Gabu-don Bouquet (¥1,400), regular size, which is a new version of their signature menu roast beef bowl, called Gabu-don, that looks like a huge flower with roast beef neatly arranged on top of rice.

The chef wanted customers to enjoy eating each slice of roast beef, so he decided to create a bouquet version where you can eat as if you are peeling off petals.

Here comes the most artsy roast beef bowl ever! Gabu-don Bouquet, ¥1,400

Approximately after 10 minutes, the chef served us this beautiful, artsy, photogenic Gabu-don Bouquet!! Isn't this so pretty? I could not resist to take a photo.

Rose shaped roast beefs are topped on cabbages which are topped on rice. The seasoning is simple, with soy sauce based tare (sauce) and pepper that adds accent to its slightly salty yet mild, sweet taste. With tare's sweetness, pepper's spiciness and roast beefs' umami, I can tell you, you will go speechless.
I am still dreaming about this Gabu-don Bouquet after so many days.

Look at them roses... aren't they so elegant? Each roast beef is sliced thoroughly by hand. No wonder they look so delicate. Each rose is consisted of 9 roast beef slices, and for the regular size, they used 27 slices in total.

They use lean meat which gives juiciness and umami. The meat is very tender and since they use part of the meat that has less fat, it is easier to eat. I think I could have easily finished eating 1.5 g, no kidding!

Surprisingly, even if you choose a larger portion (1.5g or 1 pound), the amount of rice stays the same regardless of its size! So if you love roast beef I would recommend trying 1.5g or 1 pound, you will not be disappointed!

It's not just their roast beef bowl that's good. Just a bite of Gabu-don Bouquet makes you want to try all other dishes on their menu!

As you can see in this photo, there are so many different kinds of dishes written on their menu that you can try at Gabu.

Next time I go, I will definitely try their "5 kinds of meat chirashi bowl" where they have the rose shaped roast beef in the middle, surrounded with teriyaki chicken, grilled pork, salty-sweet seasoned beef and soboro (minced chicken) with rice at the bottom!
