Osaka Castle (Osaka-jo) is one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, and is Osaka's premier tourist attraction. It is a castle built in 1597 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and is modeled after the Himeji Castle built by Oda Nobunaga. This castle was attacked and destroyed several times, so the current castle is a reconstruction finished in 1995. You can go inside the building, and the view from the top floor is also fascinating.

It takes around an hour to get to Osaka Castle from Kansai International Airport, either by train or expressway. From Shin-Osaka station, it takes less than 20 minutes. You can get off at either Tanimachi 4-chome station, Osakajo Koen station. The Osaka Castle is located inside the Osaka Castle Park, and is open from 9:00 to 17:00 pm.

It is most recommended to go in the morning, and eat lunch nearby, so that you have enough time to tour around the rest of the city in the afternoon. However, you can also go towards the closing hour, and eat dinner nearby the closest station. Here are some recommended restaurants nearby the castle that you can go for either lunch or dinner, as these restaurants are located close to the castle and to the train station!

During lunch time, they also have lunch sets that are very popular, and gets sold out pretty quickly. A good place for an inexpensive, quick bite after a tour around Osaka Castle!

Kushikatsu Oide Oide

Fried Skewers(kushiage) are famous Osaka street cuisine, and is something you should try when you"re in Osaka! They have set menus to enjoy different types of fried skewers, or a la carte which you can order your choice of skewers. One fried skewer is only ¥100.

Nishihara

Nishihara is a restaurant located 5 minutes away from Tanimachi Yonchome station, and within walking distance from the Osaka Castle Park. They serve fresh eel rice bowls (una don) and there are many repeaters that love the eel served at this restaurant. A regular size Una Don is ¥3,300 and a little pricey, but if you want to try good quality unagi, it may be worth it! It is a very small restaurant with only 9 seats, so you can enjoy the calm, local atmosphere at this restaurant.

Shuhari

Shuhari is a soba noodle restaurant located 3 minutes away from Tanimachi Yonchome. It should take less than 10 minutes to get to the restaurant from the castle.
