Yoshinoya first started all the way back in 1899 and opened up a shop in a fish market in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Since then Yoshinoya has stuck to its strengths and embraced it's motto of serving "tasty, cheap and fast" dishes to its customers.
Through it's popularity with visitors to Japan the restaurant expanded overseas and can be found in many cities around the world! It's so buy sometimes that salarymen line up out the door!
What can you eat here you ask?
They are all about Gyudon here! A tasty Japanese dish with BBQ'd thinly sliced beef and onions marinated in a special sauce, then placed on rice! It's cheap too - only 480 yen for a regular sized bowl.
One thing to definitely not overlook is the abundance of toppings you can add to your bowl, customising it to your own taste. Spring onions, Kimchee, and egg packed on top.
Pictures don't always do a dish justice, but the curry here is excellent even by a high standard! Topped with beef and onions, you can choose to get it with cheese too. Get this one!
Deliciously marinated and grilled eel is served here too - it's a special item on the menu due to popularity in Japan! Only 750 yen!
Open round the clock, the breakfast menu here is also pretty eggcellent ;)
Ham and eggs, rice, miso soup, and salad. I'll take two please!
A kinda cool thing here in Japan is that you can buy a packet of the base ingredients to make Gyudon in your own home. Check the one above!
Yoshinoya also occasionally run competitions to get people to submit their own gyudon creations like this Hello Kitty inspired beef bowl!
It's probably too cute to eat!
Check out this kinda bizarre Yoshinoya TV commercial!
