Bikkuri Donkey (translated as Surprised Donkey) is just as surprising as the name! The meals definitely have a certain "Wow" factor! They have a number of locations across Japan, with a handful in the Tokyo. There's a convenient location in downtown Shinjuku, just a few mins from Shinjuku, making it easy access for tourists too. Meals start from around 700 yen and are totally customisable.
Mmmmmmm.... So tell me, does this not look delicious?! Cheese, hamburg, Japanese rice, and a tissue-thin salad with tasty sesame mayo!
This bad boy is just one example of the type of food you can get a Bikkuri Donkey!
Plenty to choose from on the menu - starters, salads, meat, rice, soup... and wait for it, EXTRA SIZE MEALS!
So, what's for dinner?
This is a standard size hamburg with deep-fried ham topped with curry. Yum!
Deep-fried shrimp, hamburg with a fried egg, and cream and potato deep-fried pockets. Come get some!
Hamburg and beef stew. Definitely a good dish to chow down on if its a rainy day!
If you want something a little lighter they do have a number of salads to choose from, though I wouldn't really call them light - the serving size is more than decent. Try this "mermaid salad" with deep-fried squid and shrimp.
When it comes to ordering a side, why not try this cheesy grilled whole squid! Surprised yet!?
Go BIG or go home!
With all the meals you have the option to upgrade almost everything, including the gram-mage of the hamburg, the rice, toppings, potatoes, salad, drinks, and much more!
If you want the most epic dinner get the 450g hamburg, with all the toppings, and extra salad, soup and side of potatoes! Go nuts!
450g hamburg with cheese!
Possibly my favourite (I love pineapple) - 300g hamburg and grilled pineapple.
Pen not included ;P
Hey! I'm still hungry!
If you're still hungry after all this food - take the dessert challenge and try to polish off one of these mean parfaits!
