You know summer is here when it's finally time to eat mangoes! It might be surprising to read, but mangoes are grown in Japan too! Specifically in Miyazaki prefecture or Okinawa. A lot of restos are jumping on the mango bandwagon and are offering limited-time products!
Miyazaki mangoes are considered a luxury item as they are quite pricey, but oh so delicious! They are known for their juiciness and are packed with vitamin A & C. Due to its subtropical climate, to its high precipitation levels and its long daylight hours, it is possible to grow tropical fruits. In fact, this region is known for its agriculture. They are nicknamed "the egg of the sun!" Okinawan mangoes are in season between mid-June and mid-August! They grow under the hot Okinawan sun and are fresh and juicy!
Shaved ice (かき氷）
This mango shaved ice at Taiwan Cafe Zen is super fluffy and delicious. It's also incredibly refreshing and perfect for the summer! This is a definite Japanese must-try (although it is a Taiwanese cafe).
