Top 2 recommendations
Let's jump right into my top two recommendations for when dining at Ika Center.
The only way to really enjoy great seafood in Japan is to usually try it as sashimi! The squid sashimi is nothing like I've eaten before! I ordered the whole squid sashimi, meaning I got a full-size squid prepare, tentacles and all!
The sashimi platter also comes with a dipping sauce. In it is a combination of ginger, soy sauce, and... wait for it... squid liver! I was surprised by this, but after giving it a try I really liked it. It has a kinda nutty flavour and goes really well with the squid.
The fin or the body of the squid has a very different texture and taste, depending which part you eat. The top part is a little hard with fresh ocean flavour. AS you move down to the middle and bottom part of the squid the sashimi is much more tender and a little bit sweeter!
A lot of people look at squid and think it's tough to eat. The squid here is so tender!
The tentacles definitely are tougher than the body but a fantastically tasty. Add a little soy sauce and enjoy! There's also a side of grated ginger to change up the flavour! Bueno!
My second recommendation is the squid tempura ('cos who doesn't love tempura!).
The tempura comes with a warm soy and fish base dipping sauce. Just add the grated ginger and daikon to the sauce and you're good to go! Hint - daikon helps break down the oil in the dish!
To change it up, you can also just dip it in a little sea salt. Simple, but really good!
There's a couple ways to do this. 1. Order from the menu, 2. Fish for your dinner!
One customer chose the fishing option and tried her luck. They give you a raincoat to wear, as when you catch one of the squid it will shoot out water when being caught!
I went the safer route and got one of the staff to pull it out for me!
The chefs then prepare it in the way you like it.
Ika Center has a number of locations across Tokyo and Yokohama. They even have one in Hong Kong!
