Matcha can be referred as finely powdered green tea. Although it is not too common to drink pure matcha in recent days, there are many places that use matcha to make desserts and drinks.Here are a few must-eat matcha desserts in Japan to enjoy the true Japanese matcha flavor!

Nanaya is a matcha gelato store that is very popular amongst many matcha lovers. There is still a long line in front of the Asakusa store, because there are more tourists and visitors in that area. The same store recently opened in the Aoyama, Omotesando area .

The matcha flavors include matcha daifuku (mochi), matcha cookie, matcha chocolate, and matcha gelato. You can choose the richness level of your matcha gelato from 1-7, with 7 being the richest and most dense.

It is most recommended to try No.7 with a less dense one, so that you can compare the two levels of richness or mix up the two. You can choose single, double or triple scoop and select different matcha gelatos of your choice!

2. Matcha Chocolate Fondue: "Chanabe Cafe Kagurazaka Saryo Shibuya Mark City Store"

Chanabe cafe is a matcha dessert cafe located at Kagurzaka. They have several matcha desserts such as matcha cake, but their specialty menu is the matcha chocolate fondue.
Matcha chocolate fondue comes with mochi, strawberries, pie and Japanese wheat gluten (ofu), which you can put onto the stick and dip into the warm matcha chocolate. After you have eaten all the toppings, you can pour the remaining matcha chocolate onto the vanilla ice cream and make a "matcha affogato" on your own!

3. Matcha Parfait: "Saryo Tsujiri Daimaru Tokyo Store"

Tsujiri is a Matcha sweets cafe located in the Daimaru Tokyo department store close by Tokyo station. They have a variety of selections in their menu, including mochi, red bean and mochi soup, matcha mousse, and also combo menus with matcha desserts and pure matcha.

But, their main focus is the matcha parfaits served all-seasons, with more than 10 different types of matcha parfaits. The parfait includes matcha ice cream, matcha jelly, matcha mousee, mochi and many other toppings depending on the parfait you order. They also have seasonal parfaits using sakura and strawberries during spring season.
Other than parfaits, they are also famous for the matcha shaved ice which is only served during the summer season. Similar to the parfait, there are different types of matcha shaved ice cream, and is topped with various matcha desserts and Japanese mochi.
