SMOKEHOUSE : Urban Barbecue & Brew here in Shibuya, Tokyo

Searching for authentic barbecue (BBQ) in Japan? SMOKEHOUSE has the best American-style. It is located right at the center of Tokyo, on Cat Street in Shibuya.

The iconic red logo and welcoming store front attract the passerby's attention easily. SMOKEHOUSE by T.Y. Harbor Brewery with its collaboration with The ROASTERY by NOZY COFFEE. The interior of the restaurant looks classy and relatively relaxed at the same the time. It is a non-smoking establishment and 99 seats are available in the restaurant. You can choose either sofa seats, table seats or counter seats by the bar. All kinds of people go there. You often see crowds with families, co-workers and sweet couples dining.

The BBQ plates are served with dinner rolls and coleslaw. You can choose from the combo plates of three or four meats, or the ordinary plate with a single choice of meat. Do not forget to choose your favorite house-made BBQ sauce to match the meat.

The plate above is chicken from Saga prefecture, two semi-boneless thighs with BBQ sauce that costs 2,200 yen. The local poultry is very tender and juicy which is hard to find elsewhere.

Sandwich (burger)

Other than the yummy grills, SMOKEHOUSE has its own sandwiches; also called burgers. The picture above is the SMOKEHOUSE cheese burger. Its toppings are cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce, and onion. It comes with either fries or a potato salad depending on your choice for 1,700 yen.

Party Menu

The lunch course costs 2,500 yen and has David's smokey deviled eggs, house smoked cheese with whole wheat crisps, SMOKEHOUSE nachos, BBQ chicken and a Jengga Burger. As for the dinner menu, you can choose between two elaborate courses that are 2,800 yen and 3,800 yen. The Both of those courses come with many items. The variety of the menu definitely makes it worth it.


SMOKEHOUSE's bar serves craft beer from its parent company, T.Y. Harbor Brewery. They have a lot of varieties from ale to stout. You can also have your favorite house cocktail mix and non-alcoholic drinks. Soda and juices costs in between 550-600 yen.


It is easy to access if you are coming from the JR line by train. It is a 10-minute walk from either Shibuya station or Harajuku station. From Meiji Jingumae Station of the Metro line, it is only a 2-minute walk to get there.
