Hot Springs in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture!

Thinking of getting a short getaway from the city? Kanazawa can be a great choice! Just hop in the Hokuriku Shinkansen (bullet train) and embrace the nature, beautiful people and wonderful culture of Ishikawa's Prefecture capital.

Ever since Hokuriku Shinkansen (bullet train) extended the route to Kanazawa station in 2015, access to Kanazawa station was shortened to 2.5-3 hours by train. For approximately 28,000 yen you can get a return ticket from Tokyo.

You can also access by plane from Tokyo to Kanazawa through Haneda or Narita airport to Komatsu airport. Flight time is one hour. The regular one-way fare from Tokyo to Kanazawa is about 25,000 yen, however, discount tickets for around 10,000 to 13,500 yen are usually available too.

Sumiyoshiya Ryokan

This small yet cozy ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is very well located, close to Omicho Market (5 mins walk) and the wonderful Higashi Chaya district (10 mins walk).
Over 200 years old and owned by the same family, Sumiyoshiya has 4 types of rooms, with private bath and toilet, or just a toilet. You are welcome to use their shared onsen too.
They also get great reviews about their breakfast and dinner, all prepared with fresh ingredients from the market.

Motoyu Ishiya

Motoyu Ishiya ryokan is considered a hidden gem in Kanazawa.
Located about 20 minutes by car in the countryside, it is surrounded by gardens with a stream and a myriad of aged trees and bonsai.
Their onsen offers 4 different tubs: one of room temperature, a warm one inside, a warm one outside and a hot one inside plus a sauna with separate onsen facilities for females.
The food is also a highlight, their kaiseki (multi-course) style meals are prepared with lots of local ingredients.

Chaya Ryokan

Chaya is considered one of the more upscale ryokan hotels in Kanazawa with spacious rooms, great facilities, and excellent service.
Located just a few blocks from Kanazawa Station, it's perfect if you want to go sightseeing during the day.
At night, enjoy the multi-course dinners of the local Kaga-ryori cuisine, featuring lots of fresh seafood and healthy vegetables, all served on the elegant Kutani-yaki ceramics or Ishikawa lacquerware.

Yuwaku Hot Spring

Yuwaku Onsen is a 1,300 years old hot spring located 1 hour from Kanazawa Station and 20 minutes by car from Kenrokuen.
It was once used as a hidden hot spring of the Maeda family, who ruled Kaga Province in feudal times.
Nowadays, there are nine comparatively small - but luxurious - hot spring inns in the area, where you can enjoy a one-day trip bathing in the public bathhouse named Shirasaginoyu, or stay at one of the inns.
