Tsubame Grill (つばめグリル)
Tsubame grill is a chain yoshoku restaurant in Tokyo. They opened their first shop in 1930 and now have around 20 branches, most of them are located in a big shopping mall near stations. Yoshoku, literally "western-style food", a type of a Japanese cuisine which is inspired by western dishes.
Interior is decorated in a chic and retro way, which results in creating a kind of elegant atmosphere. Restaurants are spacious, so you can come with a large group of people too.
Tsubame grill's specialty is "Tsubame Hamburg Steak" (1320 yen). Hamburg steak, or usually called "hambagu" in Japanese, is one of the most popular yoshoku dishes, It is basically a thick and tender ground meat patty cooked like a steak. Their hambagu is cooked with the savory beef stew in aluminum foil.
When you open the wrapper, the "hambagu" come out with the appetizing smell and steam. It is amazingly tender & juicy, and the flavor of meat explodes in your mouth. The sauce is rich and goes perfectly with the steak.
"Korokke" is another popular yoshoku which came from the French word "croquette". It is common to use mashed potatoes for "korokke" or Japanese croquette, but they offer "scallop cream korokke" (1000 yen), consisting of creamy white sauce and scallop coated with crispy panko.
They have a nice selection of drinks too, especially German beer.
