If you are wondering what to eat in Ikebukuro, how about trying a Japanese style hot pot dish called "shabu shabu"? Shabu shabu is also known as a healthy meal. Here is a list of recommended restaurants to have a great shabu shabu (including all-you-can-eat style)!

On-Yasai is one of the biggest shabu shabu chain restaurants in Japan. There are two Ikebukuro branches located both on the east and west exit of Ikebukuro station.

They are well known for offering reasonable, yet high-quality all-you-can-eat shabu shabu. You can order and cook meat, vegetables, rice and noodles, and a variety of other side dishes; you can order as much as you want. The cheapest plan is 2780 yen and the time is limited in 120 minutes.

Shabuyo (しゃぶ葉)

It is also a chain shabu shabu restaurant, 3 minutes walk from the east exit of Ikebukuro station.

You can enjoy all-you-can-eat shabu shabu from 1599 yen (weekends; 1699 yen) for 100 minutes at Shabuyo. The staff brings your meat, but you need to go to the buffet counter to get vegetables. The price gets even cheaper during lunch time, 1199 yen (weekends; 1299 yen) for 80 minutes! It would be the best option for those who are traveling on a budget.

Dontei (どん亭)

Dontei is also an all-you-can-eat shabu shabu restaurant located on the 2nd floor of a building, 5 minutes walk from the east exit of Ikebukuro station.

You can enjoy both shabu shabu and sukiyaki (Japanese hot pot dish which is similar to shabu shabu) at Dontei. It would be a good chance to try out these two popular dishes at the same time. The menu is reasonably priced, starting from 2090yen for 120 minutes.

Tsukitei (月亭)

If you are looking for a nice restaurant for a date night or any other special occasion, Tsukitei is the place to go! It is located 5-minutes away from the west exit of Ikebukuro station.

Firstly, the atmosphere is amazing. It is calm and you can enjoy the Japanese-style interior decorations. You can choose from several course menu options (4300 yen~). You can try the selected wagyu (Japanese beef) and also fugu (poisonous fish!) sashimi.

Kureya offers a unique shabu shabu experience! It is located just a 3-minute walk away from the west exit of Ikebukuro station.

Instead of pork and beef which are usually used for shabu shabu, they serve gyutan (beef tongue) and octopus. Gyutan shabu shabu (2180 yen) is very juicy and the octopus (1680 yen) is so fresh and has a chewy texture. They also have a wide variety of side dishes.
