Shabu Shabu On-Yasai (しゃぶしゃぶ温野菜)
On-Yasai is the biggest chain restaurant serving shabu shabu in Japan. They have over 380 branches throughout Japan and becoming more and more popular, for the delicious, reasonably priced all-you-can-eat shabu shabu!
Shabu shabu is a type of Japanese hot pot dish where thinly sliced meat and vegetables are cooked in a simple broth soup and are then dipped into a sauce (usually sesame paste sauce and ponzu, which is a citrusy soy sauce).
Menu and how to enjoy
First, you need to choose from four types of all-you-can-eat plans. The price basically varies by what kinds of meat is included in the plan. The cheapest plan is 2,780 yen, which includes pork rib, loin, and chicken. The more expensive the plan, the more variety and high quality of meat you can eat, such as wagyu beef.
Then you need to select two kinds of soup for your hot pot. Usually, a very light seaweed (kelp) broth is used for shabu shabu, but On-Yasai offers more delicious soups, like spicy chili soup and soy milk based soup, to cook your ingredients even better. The pot is divided in the middle so you can enjoy the two soup at the same time.
After you order, they will bring you the soups, meat, and vegetables. You simply need to put the ingredients into the boiling soups and wait until they are cooked. Make sure not to overcook the meat. It takes only a few seconds for it to be ready as they are very thinly sliced.
You can order as many ingredients as you want for 90 minutes. Not only meat, but the great thing about the restaurant is their wide selection of fresh vegetables and side dishes. Shabu shabu can enhance the natural sweetness of vegetables and allows you to eat a large variety.
It is common for the Japanese to finish the hot pot with rice or noodles cooked in the leftover soup. The soup becomes even more flavorful after cooking meat and vegetables, so why not make the most of it? On-Yasai has rice, ramen noodles, and udon noodles. They also offer cheese to make a cheese risotto!
If you want to drink with shabu shabu, you can get all-you-can-drink for only 1500 yen! It includes over 70 kinds of drinks such as beer, whisky, sake, cocktails, and more.
On-Yasai offers the heavenly shabu shabu experience! It is suitable for everyone from young to old, family to couples, and meat lovers to healthy eaters!
