Okonomiyaki Sometaro (Asakusa)

Sometero is an old okonomiyaki restaurant established in a wooden building that resembles a traditional Japanese house. Walking up to it, you might even think it's amazing this place actually survived urban development of high-rise building for over 80 years.
The restaurant is like a Showa era house. The inside is covered in tatami mats so you must remove your shoes once you enter.

An Authentic Okonomiyaki Experience

If you've never had okonomiyaki before, that won't be a problem because the staff here speaks English, and English menus are also available. The staff will carefully explain how to make the okonomiyaki on a hot iron plate right in front of you. The fun part of having an okonomiyaki meal is actually making the savory pancake yourself!
You can order all kinds of fillings for your okonomiyaki. The word "okonomiyaki" means literally "cook what you like". So just choose something on the menu that tickles your fancy and have a shot at it!
Kimchi, mochi (sticky rice cake), cheese, and octopus are popular fillings. You can also have your okonomiyaki filled with noodles. This is the typical Hiroshima style of the cuisine.
Cook both sides of the okonomiyaki. Chat with friends while you do it and have some drinks too if you want! The place serves Japanese sakes, spirits and beer.
Once you're done, add some mayonnaise and fish flakes on top of your okonomiyaki and it's ready for you to eat!


Okonomiyaki Sometaro is a highly-regarded establishment in Asakusa, loved by locals and tourists alike! Make sure to go there if you have okonomiyaki in mind and are strolling in the Asakusa area! Expect to be around 1,000 to 2,000 yen for lunch and 2,000 to 3,000 yen for dinner.
