Furaikyo (風来居)
Furaikyo is a ramen shop located a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku station. There is often a line during lunchtime, but it moves quickly so you actually don't have to wait for a long time.
They only have counter seats so it's easy to speak to the nice and friendly staff.
Menu
The most popular menu is "Shio ramen" (770 yen). The chef learned to make ramen at a very famous ramen shop called "Santouka" before he finally opened his own shop.
What is special about their shio ramen is the soup. Usually shio ramen is light, but their soup is rich and creamy. It is made from various ingredients like pork bone, fish, vegetables, and herbs simmered for a couple of days.
The noodles have a nice firmness which goes well with the rich soup.
It has big pieces of pork. The pork is tender and juicy, it is heavenly!
Another signature menu item is "tamago kake gohan" (210 yen). More than the half of customers order it along with ramen.
Tamago kake gohan is a popular Japanese comfort food which basically consists of white rice, raw egg, and soy sauce mixed together. Furaikyo puts pork chunks, which makes the dish perfect.
