Tonkatsu is one of the most popular Japanese dishes you should have when you come to Japan. It is deep-fried pork which is coated with crunchy "panko". Tonkatsu Maruichi is one of the best tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo, where people often wait in line to try their incredible, yet reasonably priced tonkatsu!

Tonkatsu Maruichi is a famous restaurant specialized in a Japanese dish called "tonkatsu" (とんかつ). It is a small and cozy restaurant with only 14 counter seats. There is often a long line, especially at lunchtime, so I recommend you to go there around 10:30, 30 minutes earlier than their opening time.

Tonkatsu is a Japanese-style pork cutlet, where a thick slice of pork is coated with batter and "panko" (bread crumbs) which is later deep-fried. It is usually served with shredded cabbage, rice, and miso soup.
Their tonkatsu is known for the tenderness and juiciness. Just a bite will make you realize was it worth the long wait. The flavor of the pork is really sublime and the big pieces of panko add a nice and crispy texture.
You can choose from two kinds of tonkatsu, pork loin (1,100 yen) or fillet (1,200 yen) for lunch. The dinner menu is a bit more expensive and has more varieties, such as "ebi fry (deep-fried shrimp)".

Tonkatsu is one of the dishes you need to try while you are in Japan. Tonkatsu Maruichi would be the best restaurant to try an incredible tonkatsu in Tokyo!
