The Otaku Backpacker's Must-Go Manga Cafes in Shinjuku, Tokyo

So you're traveling through Tokyo, and you want to get the most out of your otaku journey. You definitely should try a manga cafe. Whether you're just looking for a place to unwind after a busy exploration day or even a place to stay overnight if you missed the last train, Manga cafes are a worthy experience. A lot of times, you get unlimited hot and cold drinks. You get to cozy up in your own booth and curl up with your favorite manga, surf the net or even play computer games.

Gran Cyber ​​Café Bagus

About a 10 minute walk from Shinjuku station, this place is a really nice place to relax and move-away from the city's hustle and bustle. For backpackers in need of a quick shower, or for people looking for a nice place to rest your head for a few hours (or even a night), this place is great. You get: comic books, access to the internet, games and online games, a DVD player, free movies, billiard, darts etc.
But you also get a women's section and a shower room!
This cafe has a very relaxing and elegant feel to it.
There's also unlimited drinks and soft-serve ice-cream!!

Price for 3 hours (during the day): ¥810
Price for a night (12 hours): ¥2,390 (free 20 minute shower)

Media Cafe Popeye

About 5 minutes from Shinjuku station, close to the Kabukicho area.
This chain has around 30 branches around Tokyo, so you can find one easily almost wherever you are. As you would expect from a manga cafe, you can read all the manga availables, and use the internet. You can also use foot massage machines and showers for free (although towels aren't). This place looks rather upscale compared to some of the others manga cafes.

Price for 3 hours (during the week): ¥920 + tax
Price for 3 hours (during the weekend): ¥1,112 +tax
Price for 9 hours (during the week): ¥1800+ + tax
Price for 10 hours (during the weekend): ¥2,770 +tax

Takarajima 24

Located in Kabukicho, this chain, like most others, offers internet, mangas, DVD's, etc. But you also get a free shower (you have to rent a towel) and you can use the coin laundry service, which is quite practical if you've been packpacking for a few days. You can also get cheap snacks and karaoke.

Price for 1.5 hours: ¥1,000
Price for 12-20 hours ¥3,000

Geragera Manga Cafe

Like the previous cafe, it is located in Kabukicho and it offers internet access, comic books, DVD's, etc. This cafe offers service at a reasonable price, but you have to sign up to be a member (¥100). There are also unlimited drinks and light meals on site.

Price for 8 hours ¥1,480
