Kaninabe Recipe: Crab Hot Pot
Kaninabe is a Japanese hot pot very popular in the winter season. Since crabs are often expensive, not cheap at least, kaninabe is regarded as a special nabe dish compared to other nabe dishes. The broth is made from crab shells is extremely good. For a special winter day, why don't you try a special kind of nabe?
What is "Kaninabe"(カニ鍋)...?
The main ingredient is of course crabs. It can be any kind of crabs you like, but taraba crabs or zuwai crabs are more common than kegani, hairy crabs. The crab itself is very good, although the crab-based nabe broth is probably the most enjoyable part!
Kaninabe Recipe: Crab broth nabe recipe you can try
-any kinds of mushrooms you like(shitake mushrooms or shimeji mushrooms will be fine)
-1/2 of Chinese cabbage
-1pack of tofu
-Any kind of vegetables you like
-5cups of water
-Piece of kelp
-1/2cup of soy sauce
-1/4cup of sake
Step2: Chinese cabbage and leek shall be cut in 5cm pieces. Tofu will be fine cut into 8-10 bite-size pieces.
Step3: Put water, sake, kelp pieces, and extra crab shells into the hot pot and boil.
Step4: Once the nabe is heated and ready, add in crab legs and boil again in medium fire.
Step5: After the crab is ready, add the vegetables and lid for few minutes until they are all heated.
Step6: Enjoy with ponzu-vinegar.
Step7: After you have finished eating kaninabe, it's still not over yet. Add some rice and melting egg in order to make some zosui. Enjoy the astounding taste of the crab broth!
