Teriyaki Recipe: The Japanese Tasty Sauce!

You may have heard the word "Teriyaki" at least once before. Teriyaki is a Japanese cooking technique in which you glaze something with soy sauce, mirin, Japanese sweet sake, and sugar. This post will introduce you not only how to make Teriyaki sauce, but also how versatile the Teriyaki sauce is.

What is "Teriyaki"(照り焼き)...?

Teriyaki is a kind of cooking technique often used in Japanese cuisine. The main ingredients are soy sauce, mirin (sweet sake), and sugar.

Teriyaki sauce can be basically used for anything. Japanese people often like to glaze meat, such as chicken or pork, and sometimes fish.

Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

-2 tablespoons of soy sauce
-2 tablespoons of sake
-2 tablespoons of mirin, sweet sake
-1 tablespoon of sugar

Directions

Step1: Mix all the ingredients. Make sure the sugar is completely melted.

Step2: Heat and boil down. Be careful not to scorch!

Teriyaki Recipe 1: Teriyaki Chicken, Soy sauce Chicken

Ingredients(1 serving)

-150grams of any kind of chicken meat (You can also have pork on behalf)
-Starch powder

-Teriyaki sauce

Direction

Step1: Cut open the chicken and make them thin so that it will be easier to heat.

Step2: Powder both sides of the chicken.

Step3: Start grilling from the skin side in medium fire. After both side is well heated, add teriyaki sauce and boil down.

Optional Recipe: Teriyaki chicken pizza

Teriyaki chickens are delicious only by itself but even better when adding to some pizza. Thinly slice the teriyaki chicken and put on to your pizza. Needless to mention, pizza is a food with no rules but our recommendation for other ingredients are corn and some mayonnaise.

Teriyaki Recipe 2: Buriteri, Teriyaki Fish

Ingredients(1 serving)

-Slice of any kind of fish (Japanese usually have yellowtail, but salmon will be good too.)
-Half of leek

-Teriyaki sauce

Direction

Step1: Cut the leek into 3cm wide. Heat the pan and grill the leek.

Step2: Take out the leeks after they are well grilled. Grill both sides of fish slices in medium fire.

Step3: After both sides are well heated, add teriyaki sauce and boil down.

By simply changing your tomato ketchup or BBQ sauce in your hamburger to teriyaki sauce, you can enjoy teriyaki burger, which is one of the most popular menus of McDonald's in Japan.
