Authentic Korean Cuisine In Ikebukuro: Jikiya (自起屋)

For authentic Korean cuisine, Jikiya is a great place to go in Ikebukuro. You can have a satisfying evening meal with alcohol for less than ¥3,000 per person.

Feel free to follow favy!

Korean Restaurant Jikiya (自起屋)

Jikiya is a restaurant located at about a 5-min walk from the Ikebukuro's Station East Exit. The management and chefs are Korean and they serve some fine quality authentic cuisine for the price. You can have a good evening with friends, order a few drinks and share some spicy Korean dishes, and it shouldn't cost you much more than ¥3,000 per person.

The atmosphere is warm and they have a nice low table section where you can sit on the floor Korean-style.

Korean Karaage

Jikiya serves excellent Korean karaage chicken. Karaage is Japanese-style deep-fried chicken. This one is served with a slightly sweet and spicy sauce.

Mochi Cheese Plate

You can order this mochi cheese place, which is, in my opinion, the best thing in the restaurant! Imagine melting mochi, topped with melting cheese mixed in with a spicy sauce. Just so tasty!

You can get this platter of black sausages which are not as oily as they look. They almost have a crunch texture and they come with a little plate of salty seasoning.

Chijimi (Korean Savory Pancake)

They have a variety of chijimi pancakes which look all very good, but the house's recommendation is the seafood one. The sour and salty dipping sauce goes really well with this chijimi.

Korean Noodle Salad

This one was really excellent. It had a good balance of sourness and spiciness. Perhaps the restaurant uses gochujang, a kind of Koran spicy paste to make the seasoning. In any case, it was very tasty. The slightly hard veggies with the soft noodles make an interesting contrast, which makes the texture of the dish also quite enjoyable.

Crab Salad

For seafood lovers, you should probably try this one. The salad has a generous about of crab in it. The shell is not removed so you'll have a little work to do while you enjoy your dish. As for the sauce, it has a nice tanginess to it.

If you go to any Korean restaurant, make sure to try the Korean alcohols. They have makgeolli, a kind of white, sweet sake that is very good to have with any Korean food. Also, try some Korean spirits, such as the one shown above which has 16.9 percent of alcohol.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced, Korea restaurant in Ikebukuro, Jikiya is an excellent place. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable too. It's the ideal place to have a good time with a small group of friends.
