Inuyama Matsuri: Float Car Festival In Aichi!

Inuyama Matsuri is an annual festival held in Inuyama, Aichi. Inuyama Matsuri is well known for its magnificent floats! The gorgeous looking floats will surely be a scenery you cannot forget.

Inuyama Matsuri (犬山祭)

Founded in 1635, Inuyama Matsuri is a festival held annually on the first weekend of April. The main event of Inuyama festival is the 3 layered float cars, which sums up to 13 in total. Karakuri dolls (Japanese mechanical dolls) will be showed along with the music.

At night time, each float cars will be illuminated with 365 lamps and gathers up alongside with the blooming cherry blossoms. The collaboration of the float cars and the flourish of sakura (cherry blossoms) is something you need see at least once before you die!

The float weights more than 5 tons. When changing the directions at the corner, it is just so overwhelming how many men there is!

Inuyama Matsuri is regarded as the origin of 3 layered float festivals. The mechanical Karakuri dolls have been strongly influenced by the culture of Nagoya.

Date and timetable

Date

Annually every first weekend of April.
In 2018, April 7th and 8th.

Timetable

The festival will start at 8:00 in the morning. If you are to look all the floats gathering up, visit Inuyama park near Inuyama castle during 9:40-10:40.

The light up of lamps will star at 17:50.

The timetable will slightly change in Saturday and Sunday.
