Kyoto Gogyo Ramen 京都五行

The elegant and chic decor is not what you expect from a ramen restaurant, but it is sort of a cross between a ramen joint and an upper scale izakaya. You can also order some small dishes and some sake at any of the branches.

Nishi Azabu Gogyo 西麻布五行

In Nishi-Azabu, close to Roppongi is their Tokyo branch. It has a different feel from the Kyoto branch, it is more modern yet still classic.

Nagoya Gogyo 名古屋五行

The Nagoya branch is very spacious and bright. It is great for going with a small group, but there are also counter seats if you want to go by yourself.

Of course, the staple dish here is the burnt ramen. It has a very powerful taste that will get you hooked. Some people even say they would gladly pay a plane ticket simply to come back and have this ramen bowl again. It is quite salty though, so the perfect accompaniment is probably a beer or a nice glass of fresh sake.
(The ramen bowl is about 900 yen.)
They are known for their ramen, but they also double as a fancy izakaya and they also serve other delicious dishes. There are many fried dishes to choose from, such as this deep-fried piece of tuna (990 yen).
There is duck roast to try for 1,190 yen.
If you have a sweet tooth, you can try the white or black sesame pudding for 490 yen. Sesame pudding is slightly unusual for the Western palate, but be sure to try it as it's delicious!
