4 Best Places To Have Fugu In Tokyo!

Are you brave enough to try Japan's, or perhaps the World's, most dangerous food?! Eating Fugu, or Blowfish, can be deadly if served incorrectly (mainly by amateur home chefs) - the poison in the liver of the fish can supposedly kill you within 2 hours! Here's my top 3 places to try Fugu in Tokyo. Are you game to try it?

Feel free to follow favy!

1. Usuki Fugu Yamadaya 臼杵ふぐ山田屋

Heading from Roppongi station and a few mins walk past Roppongi Hills you'll find this 3-michelin star restaurant, Usuki Fugu Yamadaya.

The Chef here has been preparing Fugu for decades and has perfected the art of serving up Fugu in several different ways. So fears aside, Fugu Sashimi here is prepared in a special way and is dipped in different sauces that Yamadaya prepares exquisitely from scratch making it a true delicacy!
If it's your first time trying Fugu and you're feeling uneasy about the threat of actually dying, take the safe bet choose this place. It is on the pricier side of things, but definitely worth every yen!

2. Fukuji 福治

Describe a little bit like a secret restaurant Fukuji is a little hard to find, but once you get there you'll enter of a world of ultimate Fugu cuisine! Just few mins walk from Higashi Ginza station Fukuji will definitely won't let you down!
Once you're seated the Chef's attend to you directly and explain everything about the menu, dishes and particularly about Fugu.
If you want to try authentic fugu dishes then you've got the right spot!

3. Makino 牧野

Come grab a seat a the counter at this more relaxed and homely-feel of a restaurant. Its about a 14 minute walk eastward from Ueno station. This place is probably better known for more of a "locals favourite." The fugu here done in different ways is truly superb!
The fugu sashimi is their best seller, but there are plenty more dishes on the menu, including BBQ Fugu!
A little lighter on your wallet without sacrificing quality and taste, Makino makes my top 3 fugu restaurants in Tokyo!
If you've ever wondered what fugu tastes like then one not give one of these places a try! Don't worry about the poisoness factor though, all these restaurants have trained chefs and a long list of "still alive" customers!

What's more, this is not just any fugu, it's the torafugu (tiger blowfish), which is said to be the most exquisite type of all. The course comes with this beautiful sashimi dish.

The sashimi is enjoyed with a ponzu sauce (savory sauce made with some yuzu lemon juice). The delicate flavors of the fish and the citrusy notes of the sauce blend together perfectly!

Aside from the sashimi, with the course, you will also have the chance to enjoy torafugu karaage (deep fried) and torafugu boiled with vegetable in a fragrant hotpot. For more information about Torafugu Tei, check out the link below.
