Sapporo has some nice shabu shabu (Japanese steamboat or hot pot) restaurants you should definitely consider trying while you are there! In particular, the place to be is around the Susukino Station. Here is a selection of the best shabu shabu restaurants in Sapporo city!

Feel free to follow favy!

Shi No Hei (しの平)

Shi No Hei is one of the best restaurants for shabu shabu in Sapporo because it is extremely selective for its meat and the way it is cut. The restaurant actually doubles as a shop selling it because it has a special licence to do so. They serve some Japanese black cattle beef that is beautifully marbled and finely sliced to perfection. You can also have some Hokkaido deer meat at this restaurant and some lamb as well. These are not the typical ingredients you would be served at a restaurant in Tokyo. Average dinner costs about ¥7,000. A little pricey but well worth it!
Shi No Hei is located at a 5-minute walk from the Susukino Station.

Hokkaido Shabu Shabu Pokke (北海道しゃぶしゃぶ ポッケ)

This place is pretty reasonably priced for the quality that you get. It is one of the most liked shabu shabu restaurants by the locals for that reason. Expect to pay around ¥3,000 - ¥4,000. There are many all-you-can-eat options, including a lamb meat one that you might want to try because lamb is a regional speciality in Hokkaido. You can choose two type of soup to get a different flavour. A good way to enjoy it is to choose a spicy and a mild one. If you want to drink a lot, they've got you covered with their all-you-can-drink course options. They are just a little more expensive than the all-you-can-eat courses.

Hatake No Shabu Shabuyasan (畑のしゃぶしゃぶ屋さん)

This shabu shabu restaurant has a good selection of around 40 kinds of fresh vegetables to enjoy with your meat. They also serve a rare kind of Hokkaido white cattle (shiro rogyu) that is said to have a really deep umami taste. They have various course meals that range in price from ¥3,280 to ¥15,000. There is even an all-you-can-eat vegetable course that is just ¥1,880, so this place is ideal if you are going with people who don't eat meat. All-you-can-drink options are also available.
Located a 4-minute walk from the Susukino Station.

Zen (禅)

Zen is a beautiful Japanese style restaurant with a warm traditional atmosphere and where dine on the floor using "zaisu" (legless chairs) or cushions on tatami mats (there is a hole in the floor for your legs). The all-you-can-eat courses start at only ¥2,800 (90 minutes) and can go up to ¥21,000 with all-you-can-eat Kobe beef. They also serve some excellent sushi, and the sukiyaki is just as popular as the shabu shabu. There are some all-you-can-drink options or you can just buy your drinks a la carte for about ¥500. A popular choice here is the kaku highball made from Suntory whiskey at ¥410.

Gyuzen Sapporo Susukino Location (牛禅 札幌すすきの店)

At this reasonably priced restaurant, you can enjoy some Japanese grown vegetables and Japanese produced meat (pork, beef). Gyuzen makes its own special tare dipping sauce which is ponzu (yuzu lemon and soy-based sauce) in which ground sesame seeds and chicken broth are added. They have a vegetarian menu and some all-you-can-drink options that includes many types of Japanese sake and shochu (Japananese spirits).
