5 Of The Best Gay Bars In Sapporo (Including One Lesbian Bar)!


Looking for a gay bar in Sapporo? The place you should go is the SA Building in the downtown area! Here we introduce 4 bars located in that building and 1 more that caters to lesbians that is in another area.

Gay Bars In Sapporo

SA Building

Sapporo has a small but vibrant gay community. When it comes to bars, most of them are located in the SA Building in the downtown area near the Susukino Station. Here are a few popular spots in that building.

The last place introduced in this article is a bar outside of the SA building that caters particularly to a lesbian clientele.


Gay Bar Hammer is a popular counter bar with the locals. Note that they will only allow people who can speak some Japanese, and girls are not allowed to enter. There is a ¥1,000 cover charge and the drinks are ¥700 for a beer and ¥800 for a cocktail. They have a karaoke system if you're into that!
The bar is on the 4th floor of the SA Building.

Bar Sign Oh!

Bar Sign Oh! is one of the few bars you do not have to pay a cover charge to get in. Aside from the drinks which are about ¥700, they serve some Hokkaido speciality dishes such as mutton in a jingisukan small set for just ¥500. From Sunday to Wednesday, they have a happy hour deal for which the drinks are ¥200 cheaper from 19:00 - 20:00.
Located on the 5th floor of the SA Building.

Buena Vista

Buena Vista is a super friendly establishment that is also said to be the most welcoming for foreigners. The owner sometimes dresses up for entertainment. In the picture above, you can see him doing an impersonation of Yoko Ono. Drinks are cheap too! And you can get try out some local Hokkaido sake. These bottles were being served for ¥300 a small cup. Prices may vary based on what is available at the time.
This bar is on the second floor of the SA Building.

Excellent Luck

Excellent Luck has a cover charge of ¥1,000 and drinks start at ¥600. The place has a men-only policy. This bar with a modern decor is on the 2nd floor of the SA Building.

Bar ORB (Lesbian, Gay-Mix)

This is a bar with a 20 people capacity that is popular with lesbians because it has a women-only night on Saturday. It has a cozy atmosphere and the staff are friendly. It's a good place to meet new people and make friends. The cover charge is only ¥300 and the drinks are about ¥600.
Bar Orb is at a 2-minute walk from the Hosui Susukino Station or a 7-minute walk from the Susukino Station.
