Wakayama Shirahama For A Weekend Getaway At The Beach And At The Onsen!

Judging by the picture, it might seem like a tropical vacation destination, but it is actually right in Wakayama! Wakayama Shirahama Onsen is an incredible beach and onsen resort right in the Kansai region. Here's more information on the area!

Feel free to follow favy!

Wakayama Shirahama Onsen 和歌山白浜町温泉

Simply by looking at the picture above, you could easily imagine that it was taken in Honolulu or in Okinawa, but this is actually in Wakayama, the Kansai region. It is only two hours away from Osaka and is a very popular vacation destination because it is a beach resort as well as an onsen resort. Best of both worlds? Quite possibly!
"Shirahama" means white beach because of the white sand covering its shore, and because of a shortage of it they even import it from Australia!
This area has a very festive atmosphere with fireworks on its shore every day!
Seafood lovers, you'll be pleased to know that the spiny lobster is a local delicacy and is as delicious eaten raw or casually cooked on a BBQ. Bonito is also a commonly eaten fish in the area!

How to get there

Shirahama Station, on the JR Kisei Line, can be accessible from Osaka Station with the Osaka Loop line and the Tennoji Station with one transfer at Tennoji Station.

Ticket Fee

6 out of the 8 hot spring facilities are open to the public, and the rest are only available to overnight guests.
Shirasuna onsen is only 100 yen to get in, and because it is visible to those on the beach, a bathing suit is required.
Sakinoyu also has an outdoor bath and admission is 420 yen and offers a breathtaking view of the sea.

If you love dining, Kushimoto is known as divers' paradise as the water is crystal clear and the average temperature at the surface is 21.1 degrees Celsius. What is more, you can dive year-round!

Adventure World

Amusement Park is a huge theme park with everything from a safari park, an amusement park, an aquarium, a Ferris wheel, etc! You are bound to have a fun day filled with excitement for you and your children!

Three Step Cliff 三段壁

Sandanbeki, or the Three Step Cliff offers a breathtaking view of a 50m cliff. It is a perfect photo spot!

Engentsu Island

It is a natural arch that can be seen from the shore and is a symbol of the area.

Be sure to visit Shirahama in Wakayama Prefecture for an invigorating getaway at the beach and a soothing day in the hot springs! Since it is in the Kansai region, you can get a perfectly balanced holiday; a few days visiting the exciting city of Osaka, a few days strolling through the traditional streets of Kyoto, and finally a few days at the beach in Wakayama!
