At Night Out In Osaka's Gay Bars

Some background information

Although Japan is not an inherently homophobic country, public displays of affection tend to be frowned upon, regardless of sexual orientation.

Osaka's gay bars are mostly concentrated around Hankyu Umeda Station, in the Doyama area.

Start the night off right with some tasty food!

This small and welcoming bar is an inclusive place where all are welcome to come and enjoy a drink and some tasty vegan food. It's a great place to start the night, have a chat with the people sitting around you and meet some fellow travelers and locals as well.

Geared Towards Gay Men

GrandSlam is a highly popular bar in Osaka's Doyama area. Although it caters mostly to gay men, they are welcoming of LGBT and straight customers as well. The important part here is having a blast and singing your heart out with their awesome karaoke machine!
The cover charge is 1,000 yen and includes a drink. The following drinks are about 700 yen (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages).

G Physique

G Physique is a cozy karaoke bar. Although it is small, it fills up quickly and is a super fun place to have a few beers and meet new people. The bar is filled with Japanese and non-Japanese alike.

Geared Towards Lesbians

This is a tiny bar with a friendly owner, drinks are about ¥800 and it's ¥100 per song. Karaoke seems like a really popular activity in the Doyama area. At this point, even if you hate karaoke, like they say, if you can't fight them, join them, and you'll see why it's so much fun!

JAKE is a women-only bar (FTM are also welcome), where you can come have a fun time. The system here is that the cover charge is 500 yen, drinks are 700 yen, and karaoke is free!
Even if you really don't like karaoke, just give it a try... and maybe you'll finally see why karaoke is so popular in Japan (a few drinks do help though..hm hm!)

LGBT Clubs

Do you recognize the lady above singing karaoke? Lady Gaga stopped by this bar to have a fun night out at FrenZ FrenZY! It is owned by Sari-cahn, a nice and lively non-Japanese guy. It is a nice place to have a drink during the week, and it can get pretty wild on weekends! Everyone is welcome here.

Explosion is a nice place to grab a drink or dance your butt off on the weekend! It's a colourful, inclusive space where you can dance, drink and have an amazing time. Drinks are cheap at only 700 yen. There are a lot of different events throughout the month, so make sure to check their website, or just head there, and you'll be in for a fun surprise.

Jack In A Box

Jack in a Box is a men-only bar/club that operates only from Friday to Sunday but has special events every night. Check out their twitter feed to stay to know about the upcoming events.
