The popular curry restaurant J.S Curry has opened a new restaurant in Shibuya. The new restaurant also serves a type of curry you can only order there, the Sammaan Curry. The new dish is made with a tumeric roux and with a nice-sized piece of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cabbage!
The new Shibuya Miyamasuzaka branch of J.S. Curry opened on December 18th, 2018. J.S. Curry had been in operation for seven years at its original store in the Jinan district of Shibuya. Their "Jinan Curry" in which you find plenty of vegetables and seasonal ingredients quickly became their signature dish.
A Curry Only Served At The Miyamasuzaka Location
The Sammaan Curry has a buttery and turmeric smell with a rich roux. On top of that, they serve a big piece of chicken cutlet, mashed potatoes and marinated cabbage. It's quite different than other kinds of curry you find in Japan because of the way you eat it too.
How to eat it
The beef sinew is stewed in a slightly sweet miso sauce. It will melt in your mouth right away.
You basically remove the tender meat from the bone with your for and place it into your curry.
Once you've taken all the meat from the bone, you just mix everything together.
Once mixed thoroughly, your dish should look something like this. The crispy coating of the chicken, the juicy meat, the soft potatoes and cabbage make an interesting combination of textures.
Unlike the original curry by J.S Curry which had more of a savoury European taste, the roux of this Sammaan curry is really punchy with a sharp turmeric taste. It's cooked three hours and reheated one more time before being served.
J.S Curry Shibuya Miyamasuzaka branch is located at a 3-minute walk from the Shibuya station.
