Marine Day is a national holiday in Japan held on the third Monday of July. On Marine day and the Sunday before it, Odaiba holds a Lantern Festival, officially called the Umi no Akari Matsuri 海の灯まつり.

The event's highlight is the evening light up of the white paper lamps on Odaiba's beachfront park. They are placed on the beach into giant geoglyphs patterns. The lanterns are lit from 18:30 to 22:00 approximately.
