Kohikan is perhaps the most classic cafe chain there is in Japan. They specialize in serving premium quality coffee, so expect to pay around ¥500 for your cup. That's about twice the price of other cafe chains in Japan but totally worth it if you're a bit picky about coffee.
Various Types Of Quality Coffees
If you are a coffee connoisseur, you should enjoy the fact that they offer coffee made from charcoals roasted beans, ripened beans, beans that are dried in the shade and the house's original blend. All these coffees have different tastes in terms of bitterness, sweetness and acidity.
Pancakes: Their Other Claim To Fame
They have their own original pancake mix. The outside of the thick pancakes is hard and the inside is nice and fluffy. They come with some butter and four variations of toppings, including strawberries and ice cream and Japan's traditional sweet adzuki beans.
If you go there you might want to try their parfaits or this gorgeous coffee jelly. Luxurious coffee jelly dishes in Japan are a staple of authentic coffee shops.
For about ¥800 to ¥1,000, you can have one of their deluxe sandwiches sets that come with a small salad and a hot or cold drink. They are about ¥400 to ¥700 if ordered a la carte.
They also have a very cheap morning menu. If you order a drink, for just an additional ¥160, you can get a toast, a small salad, a piece of ham and a fried egg.
Kohikan serves some really good coffee and provides a warm atmosphere where you can relax. It's perhaps the best cafe chain in terms of quality in Japan. A must-try for true coffee lovers.
