A Japanese Take On The Classic French Toast!


Tamagoya, a restaurant in Shizuoka which already has people lined up for their delicious pancakes, has come up with a new delicious menu! They have a Japanese take on the classic French toast! Come check it our for yourself.

The French Toast Set, ¥1,700
This set was made to look like a classic Japanese set meal: a fried omelette, a bowl of rice, miso soup and soy sauce.
BUT! It's actually a dessert set!
This creative take on a traditional meal is actually French toast, a Japanese parfait, green tea ice cream and syrup!

Tamagoya's Japanese French toast

The secret to this French toast's rich taste is the way it was carefully prepared. It was bathed in a sort of pudding made with eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla oil and a hint of salt. The bread is incredibly soft and the interior is juicy.
As soon as you place your order, the French toast is carefully and slowly cooked to bring out the best possible texture.
This dessert is made to look like a bowl of rice, but it is, in fact, a Japanese parfait!
It is made with black sugar gelee, soy milk blanc-manger, black sugar warabimochi, kinako cream, crepe batter, sponge cake, bananas, strawberries and a huge amount of whipped cream keeps everything hidden.
Perfect for the summer season, this ice cream and syrup have been carefully selected by a patissier.
It is suggested to enjoy this ice cream after you've finished everything.
Pickled vegetables too?
No, rest assured! They're semi-dried fruits that were prepared to look like pickled vegetables.

Their other specialties

Egg Sunny Side Up, ¥1,200
Did you think this was actually a fried egg? This is their signature pancake!
This dish is actually a stack of pancakes covered in milk sauce and a sauce made to look like an egg yolk.
It comes with corn potage, a sausage, salad and also coffee.

Fried kakigori (ice dessert)?

Fried Egg, ¥1,300
This kakigori is shaped like an egg and before serving it to you they cook it with a burner! The ice is covered with a meringue and as soon as they heat it, the smell of the meringue and caramel sauce will entice your senses!
At the centre, you would think it's a raw egg, but it's the egg yolk sauce. This milk kakigori is also made with a milk sauce and a caramel sauce. The blend of the different tastes go very well together.
