Gyu Shige Yakiniku (BBQ): A Cheap Popular Chain In Japan Worth The Go

Gyu Shige is an affordable yakiniku (Korean BBQ) chain that you won't have any trouble finding all over Japan, especially if you are in Tokyo. It serves assortments with lots of variety and a good about of meat from about ¥2,000. Here's more on this popular restaurant.

Above all Gyu Shige is well-known for its affordability. Plates are ordered a la carte from ¥390 or assortments of 12 to 17 items that range in price from ¥2,000 to ¥3,000.
The meat is grilled on charcoal in at roaster at your table. Charcoal is said to be the best way to grill yakiniku.

Affordable Courses With Lots Of Meat

Most people that go there order a course meal. It's not all-you-can-eat, but the portions are very generous.

¥2,500 Course - Popular Options

There are two courses at ¥2,500 that are the most popular options. One of them is called the "Oniku Gatsuri Course" (which translates roughly as "the course with lots of meat"). This one has 30 percent more meat than the other one. So this is a good option if you want a very hearty meal.
The other one has less quantity but has cuts of better quality that includes, for instance, premium quality Japanese short rib cuts (jo-karubi).

Add ¥990 To Make It An All-You-Can-Drink!

Every course has an all-you-can-drink option of two hours that you can add for just ¥990. Drinks are about ¥500 so if you are planning to have two drinks or more, you'd better make it an all-you-can-drink!

Seasonal Specials

Check out what is the recommendation for the season. They often have specials, some quite surprising. They were offering in the spring of 2019, a "sakura yukke" (cherry blossom yukke). Yukke is seasoned raw beef topped with an egg yolk.


The classic way of finishing a yakiniku feast is with some ice cream. Desserts are available from ¥190 to ¥390.
