Tokyo

These cafes are located in buildings that were designed by some of Japan's best architects. Not particularly well-known or expensive, they are well worth the try.

Feel free to follow favy!

UT Cafe BERTHOLLET Rouge by Tadao Ando

This cafe with an open terrace is located inside the Fukutate building of Tokyo University's Fukutate Hall (福武ホール), which was designed by Tadao Andoh.
The Pritzker Prize-winner self-taught architect is known primarily for his beautiful concrete-based architecture.
The night-time lighting of the building gives it a completely different allure. You can stay at the cafe until 9:30 PM and even enjoy a glass of wine (¥450) there.

henri fabre by Toyo Ito

The Italian cafe-restaurant henri fabre is located inside the Za-Koenji (座・高円寺), a public theatre designed by Toyo Ito. He is also a Pritzker Prize decorated architect.
The spacious restaurant submerges you into Ito's surreal universe. It is located on the second floor of the building.
You can enjoy a lunch meal there for around ¥1,000. During the day it has more of a cafe feel whereas during the evening it has more of a dining bar-like atmosphere. Prices for dinner are not that expensive too, so make sure to try it out if you live nearby Koenji!

Kuriyakashi Kurogi by Kengo Kuma

Kuma Kengo has designed several restaurants and cafes throughout Japan. His intricate design style most often relies on wood as the primary material to create the most calming of atmospheres.
Kuma designed the Daiwa Ubiquitous Computing Research Building (大和普适计算研究大楼) of Tokyo University, where he also is a professor of architecture. That's where you'll find the high-end shaved iced cafe called Kuriyakashi Kurogi.
Japanese shaved ice is a must-try summer treat, and what better place to try it than at this stunning cafe?
