Narikura

narikura
Narikura is located a 3-minute walk from the Takadanobaba Station. It became famous for its outstanding tonkatsu that has a distinctive white coating, and pork that is irresistibly tender.

The joint is so popular that it isn't uncommon to see long queues outside before the opening even during a weekday.

The White Tonkatsu

narikura_set
This 190g pork roast set meal is ¥2,280. The normal colour of deep-fried pork cutlets is golden brown. This one, however, is much paler. The reason is that it is made with a customized panko and the frying is made at a comparatively low temperature.

It's put into the oil at a temperature of 110 C and then the temperature is gradually increased until its fully cooked.

So Tender You Can Cut It With Your Chopsticks

Because of the cooking technique and the good quality of the meat, the tonkatsu is exceptionally tender and juicy, and its packed with a natural sweetness and a savoury umami.
tonkatsu_sauce
It's so good that you can have it as is, but for an even richer taste, add some tonkatsu sauce that is sweet and spicy. It goes so well with it.

Lastly...

Granted, a tonkatsu set over ¥2,000 is quite on the expensive side but really, this one did not disappoint! You should give Narikura a try if you're a fan of the famous Japanese soul food.
