Menchi katsu, usually called menchi, is a Japanese food made of a minced meat (a mixture of pork and beef) covered with bread crumbs and is deep fried. This is a common street food. In this article, it will introduce the best places to buy menchi katsu.

1. Asakusa Menchi (浅草メンチ

Asakusa menchi is 3 minutes away from Asakusa Station. This menchi uses a mix of Kouza pork, a popular pork in Japan that has a high quality of fat, and Japanese beef. There is usually a long line in front of the shop to eat this delicious menchi.
This menchi is super crispy on the outside because of the special bread crumbs, and the juicy flavour explosion in your mouth once you bite in. It is recommended that you take the first bite without any sauce, then put a sauce or karashi (Japanese mustard) after. It is nice that this delicious menchi katsu is less than ¥500.

2. Meat shop Sato Kichijoji (ミートショップサトウ吉祥寺)

This shop is really popular not only for menchi katsu, but also other deep fried meat dishes. This place is only a minute away from JR Kichijoji station, and you can buy the menchi for only ¥250. Because of its popularity, the restaurant runs out of menchi by the afternoon almost every day.
This place's menchi is simple, it is just made of a normal mixed meat and onions. Its combination of the simple juicy taste of meat and the sweetness of onions is delicious and worth a try.

3. Koshitsuka Butcher shop Jiyugaoka (腰塚 精肉店 自由が丘)

This place is also a yakiniku restaurant, but it is popular for a unique menchi katsu. It is only a few minutes away from Jiyugaouka Station. Its menchi uses Japanese black furred beef with delicious onions.
This shop's most popular menu is this menchi katsu (shown above). The unique part of this menchi is that it has a soft-boiled egg inside the menchi katsu. The Japanese beef with soft creamy yolk tastes amazing.

4. Choushi Ya (チョウシ屋)

This shop, only 2 minutes away from Higashi Ginza station, sells many kinds of deep fried meat food in a unique way. The popular way it sells menchi is to sell it as a sandwich style. Many people come here during lunchtime to buy these menchi sandwiches.
You can take it home, but the shop recommends to eat one at the shop, so you can have the best-tasting sandwich. You can put more than one kind of menchi in between the bread, so it is also a good idea to find your favourite combination.
