Dhaba India In Tokyo: Heaven For Those Who Love Indian Cuisine
Dhaba India is definitely worth the detour if you love Indian cuisine. It is one of the most popular restaurants in all of Tokyo. And, it's pretty cheap too!
Feel free to follow favy!
There are tens of thousands of restaurants in Tokyo, and one of the most-talked-about probably isn't what you'd expect. This restaurant is Dhaba India, which serves south Indian cuisine. It is located near the Tokyo Station.
Indian cuisine is pretty popular in Japan, and there are many good Indian restaurants in the capital, but judging by the massive amount of rave online reviews, Dhaba India has managed to become the undisputed king of affordable Indian cuisine. On top of serving great-tasting dishes, it stands out because many of the items it serves are not very common at other Indian restaurants in Japan.
Traditional South Indian Cuisine At Its Best
Dhaba India is the place to go for curry dishes, Indian street-vendor foods, or tandoor cuisine that is both exquisite and affordable.
If you go for lunch, you can either have the day's curry at ¥850, the three curry set at ¥1,050 or a deluxe set which includes three types of curry, plus a Sambar curry and a Rasam soup. With each, you can either have a piece of nan bread or a kind of deep fried bread. As for the curry types, they serve a Tamil fish curry that is pretty awesome according to many reviews, a garlic lemon butter curry, a chicken curry, and a crab curry just to name a few. What makes them outstanding is the perfect balance of spices and herbs.
Another reason this place is so popular is that you can have some dishes that are rare to find at other Indian restaurants. This is a kind of Indian crepe called a dosa and it is wrapped around potatoes. It comes with a Sambar curry and a coconut chutney. This plate is ¥1,400. This is a staple of southern India.
Another popular dish is the mutton biryani. The rice here is exceptional too. Many people going to Indian restaurants have the reflex of going for anything with nan, but don't overlook this little gem!
Dhaba India's cheesy nan bread is hard to beat!
The restaurant also caters to a vegetarian clientele. So if you want amazing Indian vegetable-based cuisine, you'll have some good options too. Just point out to the waiter that you are vegetarian and ask for recommendations.
Indian beers are served here from ¥730. The lime sour drinks are not a bad choice too if you visit on a hot summer day. If alcohol's not your thing, you can order a Madras coffee (a traditional coffee of southern India) or an extra rich lassi.
Dhaba India is extremely popular so you probably have to wait in line unless you're quite lucky. Planning ahead and making a reservation is the best way to go.
