Itamae Sushi 板前寿司 赤坂店
Itamae is a sushi and seafood izakaya. It has a nice traditional decor with a lot of wood which gives a warmth to the place. You can sit either at the counter or at tatami tables. The nigiri sushi sets are between ¥1,500 and ¥3,000. Order a la carte and most items are between ¥100 and ¥400. They have pretty good and affordable sake and shochu if you want a nice thing to pair with your sushi.
Located near the Akasaka Mitsuke Station.
Magurodake Bono Shirakawa まぐろだけボーノ 白川
Magurodake literally means "only tuna" so this store's specialty is - you've guessed it - tuna. Tuna varies a lot in texture, taste and oiliness depending on the part of the fish so try their nigiri sets or donburi bowls to discover all the sashimi cuts there are for tuna. You'll be quite surprised if you're not familiar with the differences.
Near the Roppongi Itchome Station.
Yushoku 有職 本店
Yushoku is a take-out only store that has beautiful bento boxes that are sold for about ¥1,000 to ¥3,000. Most items in them are sushi, but not entirely. This is the perfect option if you want to have a Japanese-style picnic in a park. You should definitely try this during the sakura season!
Nisashi is a what Japanese call a "taishu izakaya", or an izakaya for the general public. You recognize these by the red lantern on the store's front. So the atmosphere is laid back, and most people go there to have a few drinks while eating some food. The food, mainly sushi, is great for the price. This is somewhat of a standing-style tavern but there are some seats.
Located a 3-minute walk from the Akasaka Station.
Kaisen Izakaya Yamademmaru 海鮮居酒屋 山傳丸 赤坂店
Yamademmaru is a chain izakaya of the greater Tokyo region with this branch in Akasaka. It's known for its tuna in particular and having great sushi that has the bang for the buck. Their kaisendon (seafood bowls) are quite awesome as well. For just a meal, you don't have to pay much more than ¥1,000. Many people go there with friends, have a couple of drinks with sushi, and pay around ¥3,000.
