Cheap & Tasty Restaurants in Shinjuku For Less Than¥1,000!

After a busy day of shopping and sight-seeing in Shinjuku, you'll probably want to grab a cheap and hearty meal for dinner. Here's where to get a delicious and filling meal in the area for less than ¥1,000!

Thali Ya

Thali-ya is an Indian restaurant with branches all over Tokyo, with a few in Shinjuku alone! It's a well-rated and nice resto which serves tasty Indian cuisine. You can get a hearty dish for less than ¥1,000. For example, you can get a set for ¥676 which comes with curry, huge nan and yogurt.

Chinmaya (陳麻家)

Chinmaya is a Chinese restaurant which specializes in spicy food, such as ramen and mabo tofu. There are many restaurants under ¥1,000: the mabo tofu is ¥700 for a regular size and the tantanmen ramen is ¥800 for a regular size. If you don't like smoking restos or spicy food, you'd better skip this one.

Ginchan

Ginchan specializes in Japanese soul food cooked on an iron grill. What you'll find here are yakisoba and okonomiyaki. It's quite popular and it's a small resto, so you might have to wait in line. Here too, you can get a hearty set for under ¥1,000. A beet and yakisoba for ¥980!

J.S. BURGERS CAFE

J.S Burger has a branch in Shinjuku and is a highly popular burger shop. At their open terrace, you can spend a nice moment with your friends. Other than the classic burger menu, seasonal and original burgers are served. On Wednesdays, you can add extra Avocado on the Avocado burger. For less than ¥1,000, you can get a burger set with fries (¥920) or a sandwich with french fries (¥880)

Tenkichiya (天吉屋)

Tenkichiya is famous not only for their delicious tempura but also tendon (tempura topped on bowl of rice)! What's special about their tendon is their famous "Ten-mabushi" - you can enjoy tendon in 3 ways at once! First you can enjoy tempura by itself, then tendon, and if you pour hot tea it will become Tendon-chazuke! This is their original menu item, so you can only enjoy this here. Plus, their original tendon, called "Tenkichi tendon", is also famous for its satisfying volume of topping tempura! Both dishes are a little over ¥1,000
Just a 4-minute walk from Shinjuku station, west exit.
