What is Takoyaki?

Takoyaki is a famous dish from Osaka which has gained popularity all over the country, and even abroad!

Takoyaki is basically dough cooked on a rounded iron plate in which bits of "tako" (octopus) is placed in the centre. It is then rolled to form a ball and served with shallots, mayonnaise, bonito flakes and a thick Worchestire-style sauce.

It can be eaten as a snack or as a meal with beer. It is quick filling and tasty and is considered by many people of Osaka as their go-to soul food.

It is usually sold at food stalls, but can also be served in izakayas or bought ready-made in supermarkets.
