Looking for a Place to eat Sushi in Kyoto?

Kyoto City

Enjoy the traditional and probably the most famous Japanese dish, sushi, in probably the most traditional prefecture in Japan: Kyoto.

Feel free to follow favy!

Izuu (いづう)

Established in 1781 (236 years ago!), Iduu has been serving Saba sushi (mackerel sushi), which is one of the famous dishes that represents Kyoto. Beloved by people in Kyoto, their mackerel is thick, juicy and exquisite. They also have souvenirs so you can bring back and eat it at home/hotel room/outside! Just a 5 minute walk from Keihan Gionshijo station.

Sushi Iwa (すし岩)

About a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station, this place is very popular among tourists. No wonder why Steve Jobs acknowledged that their sushi is the best-est! They also have a great number of wines to choose from. Enjoy your sushi with some wine. Ready for the most amazing sushi experience you'll ever have?

Sushi Kassai (寿し 喝采)

Located around 5 minute away by walk from Gojo station, this place only holds 8 counter seats which creates homely atmosphere. They also serve fresh fish that is hard to get in Kyoto. You should absolutely add this to your to-go list! You will not be disappointed.
Try their crabs because they are simply amazing.

AWOMB (アウーム)

If you are looking for a little different sushi experience, AWOMB can help you. They serve a brand new style of sushi - as shown in the photograph below, all you can see is the toppings. Very colorful, artsy and beautiful toppings. Where's rice? Well, you make your own maki (roll)! You will be given an instruction to follow, so don't worry too much. And for those of you who are wondering, this sushi is called "Teori sushi".
They also use Kyoto's vegetables, so you can appreciate the taste of Kyoto. Enjoy!
Around a 6 minute walk from Karasuma station.

Sushi Matsumoto (鮨まつもと)

Probably every sushi lovers in Kyoto know about this place - with its history of being featured on Michelin guide, here you can have Edomae sushi (rice that is little hardened and seasoned with salt and strong red vinegar) that represents Kyoto! Enjoy an authentic, luxury sushi experience. Just a 5 minute walk from Gion Shijo station.
