Mochi Ice Cream: A Gift From Heaven

Mochi ice cream is a delicious snack you should definitely try while you're in Japan. Apart from the classic, be sure to try the seasonal flavours and all the delicious variations!

Feel free to follow favy!

Mochi Ice Cream

Mochi ice cream, also known as daifuku, is a very delicious and popular dessert in Japan. It is made of mochi (rice flour) and ice cream in the centre. The mix of textures and tastes is what makes it so addictive.

Convenience Store

Yukimi Daifuku is produced by Lotte and is by far the most popular mochi ice cream in convenience stores and grocery stores. Apart from the original vanilla flavour, there are tons of seasonal flavours, such as creamy sweet potato.

If you check out Lotte's Instagram, they suggest many ways of serving the ice cream. Some look really good, while some are downright ludicrous, such as mochi ice cream with potato salad. I haven't tried it, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
There's no going wrong with this one though.
I'm not sure how I feel about a melted Yukimi Daifuku over cheese and French fries.

Ice Cream Shops

Although mochi ice cream is increasingly popular in the States and across the world. Ice cream shops or wagashiyas (Japanese sweets shops) selling mochi ice cream are surprisingly rare in Japan! In fact, a lot of them have closed over the years.

But be sure to check out the link below for delicious mochi desserts in Tokyo!
