6 Places to try Matcha Tea Food and Sweets in Uji, Kyoto

Kyoto is famous for its Uji matcha tea, and there is a lot of cafes and restaurants where you can try matcha food and sweets in Uji, Kyoto. Here's the list of places you can go while you are exploring Uji!

GOCHIO Cafe

This is a perfect place for matcha and pasta lovers because they serve a cream based pasta with green tea powder on top! (Just on a quick note, if you love matcha, additional matcha powder is recommended!) Doesn't that sounds so good? Not sure how you feel about it? Well you just gotta try.
Other than that, they serve lots of matcha food such as matcha french toast, matcha croissant, and also drinks such as matcha soda!
Just a few minute walk from Uji station.

Masuda Chaho (ますだ 茶舗)

Around a 5 minute walk from Uji station, Keihan Uji Line, here you should try their matcha ice cream because it is spectacular, and known to be the number one matcha soft served in Uji. Close to Byodoin Temple, so it is a perfect place to rest a little. You should also try their matcha soba (noodles) too!

Chaganju Cafe (宇治茶願寿カフェ)

This place is very famous for their crepes - what's so special about their crepes is that they use Kyoto's vegetables and matcha miso! Their matcha chazuke (rice in green tea) is also a popular dish. And most importantly, their matcha is organic! You can also buy souvenirs at the store.
Around a 2 minute walk from Uji station, JR Nara Line.

Nakamura Toukichi (中村藤吉 本店)

If you want to try something sweet, this is the place! Very popular among Japanese people and tourist, as you enter the curtain, your nose will be satisfied with the beautiful smell of matcha. When you are there, you should try their Namacha-jelly. By the end of the day, you will be in love. Just a 2 minute walk from Uji station, JR Nara Line.

Tsujiri  (辻利兵衛本店)

Tsujiri is a very globally popular tea store in Japan so you might have seen this place in your home country. If you wan to taste Uji, this is it. You can enjoy the view of Japanese garden as well as Uji matcha, and try other sweets such as parfait. Fun fact: Tsujiri is established about 156 years ago, which tells you how people trust Tsujiri and the taste they offer! Around a 5 minute walk from Uji station.

Ito Kyuemon (伊藤久右衛門 平等院店)

If you are looking for a place to buy Uji matcha souvenirs, you should definitely stop by. They have fun souvenirs such as matcha curry and matcha liquor. At their cafe they also offer parfait and matcha noodles, and you can take out sweets too! You can enjoy the rich flavor of Uji matcha.
