Hokkaido is one of the best places in Japan to see the changing leave colours in the fall. Here are five places that are known for their stunning fall beauty.

Daisetsuzan National Park Hiking
A good spot to admire nature's fall beauty is in the Daisetsuzan National Park in the Asahi-dake area (central Hokkaido). Being in altitude, the autumn foliage starts appearing early, from mid-September lasting until around mid-October. In the area, there is an abundance of trails for all levels. There are also plenty of onsens (hot springs) and peaks accessible by ropeways.
With its beautiful rolling hills and majestic mountains, Biei is a place of stunning beauty in all season. Fall is arguably the best time to visit because the scenery is even more breathtaking with the autumn colours. Biei is located between Asahikawa and Furano and is just a 15-minute drive from the Asahikawa airport.
The Blue Pond Of Biei
The Blue Pond is a famous feature of Biei. As its name implies, the colour of the water is blue and changes to various hues of blue based on the season and time of day. In the fall, the sight of the Blue Pond is particularly interesting because of the surrounding golden foliage.
Moiwayama Mountain Of Sapporo
This mountain is such a beautiful spot located right next to Sapporo, so you can visit the city and still get a good dose of nature without leaving it. Its ropeway is particularly amazing because of the breathtaking view you get of the city and trees. In autumn, the place is a must-go spot in Sapporo because of the beauty of the autumn foliage.
Jozankei is another great spot located near Sapporo. The place is known for the Hoheikyo Dam (approximately 100 meters tall) inside a national with a truly stunning natural surrounding. It is a prime spot to admire the autumn colours of Hokkaido.
