Fukuroshosabo in Ikebukuro, Tokyo: A Cafe in an Elegant Library

Do you know about Doutor, the famous coffee chain's new incredible project? The new type of cafe displays around 3,000 books so it's no exaggeration to call it a library! We were curious about this new genre of cafe so we went to check it out for ourselves.

Feel free to follow favy!

Doutor's new cafe is almost like a library!

Directly connected to Ikebukuro Station, you'll find Esola and on the 4th floor is Fukuroshosabo.
Japan's famous coffee chain, Doutor, has now started a new type of cafe!
The cafe is one floor large and its atmosphere is completely different from a traditional Doutor cafe.

You'll find any kind of book!

When you walk in, you'll be amazed at how many books there are. You'll probably wonder where you are too, am I in a bookstore? in a library? or in a cafe?
There are just so many books!
All the books are covered with book covers so you won't know which book you're choosing, apart from a short introduction.

How about spending some time in a quiet space with a nice book?

In this corner, you can have lunch or dinner while enjoying a nice book.
The atmosphere is perfect for relaxing, and it's not really the space to have a conversation, in fact, they asked them to be kept at a minimum.

You can borrow one of their books and bring it back to your seat

Pretty much every corner in the cafe is prepared so that it can be a reading spot. You can choose from thousands of books which you can read for free. There are many tables for people who came by themselves to unwind for a bit with a good book.

If you don't know which book to choose from, you can also choose the book that was placed under the table and discover something interesting.
The window seat is a particularly nice spot to sit as you can come with friends or a date and sit by side and read a book. The atmosphere is also quite nice for a date.

The coffee is slowly prepared one by one in a siphon

Doutor is a famous coffee chain in Japan so of course, their speciality is coffee!
Each order is prepared carefully one by one in a siphon.
Since it takes some time, I suggest you go looking for a book in the meantime.
By the time you'll start reading your book, they'll probably be coming over with your coffee.

There's a lot of delicious food to choose from too!

One of their popular menu items, French Chiffon Cake, ¥756 (taxes included).
Of course, Fukuroshosabo is specialized in coffee, but they also have many other delicious menu items to choose from.
For a light meal, you can have cake or a sandwich, or if you have quite an appetite, you can have pasta too. At night, you can also have some alcohol to accompany whatever you're having.
The French Chiffon is served in a piping hot iron plate with maple syrup and whipped cream.

The outside is crispy and the inside is deliciously fluffy. It's a nice and light cake.
The cake isn't too sweet and the banana, whipped cream and caramel add a nice deeper taste.

The melted butter on top gives it a richer taste! What is nice is that you can adapt the sweetness and the taste according to your taste.
Book Chiffon (plain), ¥540 (taxes included)
This cute cake is prepared to look like a book!
You should definitely try this cake if you want something light to go with you coffee!

This cafe has a stylish and beautiful retro vibe. If you go visit it once, you'll definitely be back before you know it.
If you want to enjoy some good coffee while having a nice and relaxing time, be sure to check this cafe out for yourself!
