We tried the rainbow hot dog of Chunchon Cheese Takkarubi (春川チーズタッカルビ). This street food originally from Korea is not only super photogenic but it tastes great too!

Feel free to follow favy!

Chunchon Cheese Takkarubi (春川チーズタッカルビ) in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo

Chunchon Cheese Takkarubi is a restaurant in Tokyo's Korean neighborhood of Shin-Okubo. It has a restaurant section where you can sit down and eat delicious Korean cuisine, and there is also a street stall connected to it that sells one of the best deep-fried cheese hot dogs in town!
You may come across a couple of other stalls selling these hot dogs in Shin-Okubo, but Chunchon's ones have a particularity that catches the eye...
Rainbow Hot Dog With Potato Chunks In The Crust ¥500
The cheese inside is rainbow-colored!

Don't be surprised if you see a line of high school-aged girls waiting excitedly for THE "rainbow hot dog!" nearby. This catches the eye, to say the least! The mundane white cheese is transformed into an Instagram-ready ooze of red, yellow, green and blue.

*Tip for getting that rainbow cheese bridge: wait a little for the cheese to cool down; the hot dog is served to you piping hot so, for a moment, the cheese is too runny to extend.

How does it taste like?

It tastes really good too! The seasoning is a mix of savory and spicy sauces. And surprisingly, sugar is sprinkled over it to make it taste a little sweet. The combination of flavors is spot on to make this an addictively good street food. We loved the chewy texture with an outside crust that is golden and crisp as well!

Make sure to stop at Chuncho Cheese Takkarubi next time you wander in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo. They serve a few kinds of these deep-fried hot dogs. The prices range from ¥350 to ¥500 (the rainbow ones start at ¥400).
