This beautiful traditional restaurant of 21 places is considered one of the best in the Roppongi area for teppanyaki. The dinner courses can easily cost you more than ¥10,000 but if you go during the lunch hours (11:30 - 14:00), the set meals are surprisingly affordable. You can have Japanese wagyu steak grilled teppanyaki style as part of a set meal that includes miso soup, vegetables, rice, and coffee for as little as ¥1,600. The most expensive lunchtime set meal is ¥6,300 and includes top-quality teppanyaki wagyu beef as well as uni (sea urchin), which is another Japanese delicacy you should try.
Kakurega Teppanobu 隠れ家鉄板おぶ
This restaurant is not so easy to find because it's in the basement floor of a building. You enter by a large wooden traditional sliding door, and the restaurant's simple design has a beautiful, calming, Japanese atmosphere. One of the things they do best here on the teppanyaki iron plate is the Hamburg steak with a demi-glace sauce (around ¥1,000). It's cooked slowly to perfection and served piping hot on an iron plate. They also serve all kinds of other foods cooked teppanyaki-style, including steak.
Kuzushi Teppan Abagura くずし鉄板 あばぐら
This teppanyaki dining bar can get really pricey if you go at night but some items on the lunch menu are really affordable. Try the 100% wagyu (Japanese beef) Hamburg steak for ¥1,300. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Kanda Station and the Shin-Nihombashi Station.
Rock'n Kitchen Aitaiya
This is an izakaya-style restaurant where you can have some nice and affordable teppanyaki too. The price is not too expensive (expect to pay between ¥1,000 to ¥2,000) yet the quality is very good. They use mostly domestic ingredients and they have a special homemade sauce for the meat. It's a great place to have a couple of drinks too!
Taruya Teppanyaki たるや鉄板焼
This is another excellent place for affordable teppanyaki. You can get amazing chow men, but also some good quality beef or chicken cooked right before your eyes on the large iron plate. Taruya is located near the Ueno station.
