Samurai Gourmet

Samurai Gourmet is about a retired salaryman, Takeshi Kasumi, who finds himself with a lot of free time. He decides to go on a culinary exploration of his neighbourhood and is guided by a samurai which brings him new-found courage. The show is based on Masayuki Kusumi's manga, "Samurai Gourmet."

Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories

Midnight Diner is a show which brings people from all walks of life together after midnight at a quaint diner. It is based on Yaro Abe's manga, "Shinya shokudō." Although it is a tiny restaurant with only 12 seats and the chef has limited ingredients at hand, he is always able to accommodate his customers. The show follows a particular customer and gives background information on this character.

Chef's Table (Season 1: Niki Nakayama)

This series of documentary follows a number of great chefs and tells their stories and how they got into cooking. This particular episode is about Niki Nakayama and about how her cousin's Kaiseki restaurant gave her a deeper understanding of Japanese cuisine and how she gained a heavier form of respect towards the seasonal ingredients.

Kantaro The Sweet Tooth Salaryman

This light show is about a salaryman who's sole passion is eating sweets. We explore the city of Tokyo's many different sweets through the eyes of this sugar-craving man. It gives you an idea of where to have some of Tokyo's most popular sweets. It is also based on a manga, "Saboriman Ametani Kantarou."

The Final Table

The Final Table is a competition where chefs are set out to impress a panel of tough judges. They have to create different dishes with a particular country being the theme for the day.
