Samata, located a 6-minute walk from Akihabara Sation, is an izakaya with an impressive lunch menu! We went to try out their katsudon (breaded deep-fried pork) topped with a Japanese style omelette.

Super Soft Omellette With Katsudon

samata_tonkatsu
This is an unusual combination but it sure is not a bad idea! The popular menu item is called Torotoro Tamago No Kakuni Katsudon (¥700). The combination of colours is really nice and the soft texture of the omelette combined with the crispiness of the tonkatsu makes perfect sense too.
kakuni_tonkatsu
The tonkatsu is a very special one because it is made of kakuni pork, which means it was stewed a long time making it flavourful and tender. You can break it apart easily with your chopsticks.
Japanese_omelette
On top of the kakuni tonkatsu, there is a thick Japanese style omelette called tamagoyaki. Tamagoyaki omelettes are really tasty because there is some dashi stock that is added to them for some savouriness and they are sweetened too. This one was particularly sweet.

Since the kakuni tonkatsu was also a little sweet, the two combined exquisitely well! For a new twist on katsudon, you should definitely try Samata out!
