Ukai Toriyama: An Amazing Robatayaki Restaurant at Hachioji, Tokyo

The Mount Takao area is a lovely place to visit if you need to get away from Tokyo for a little bit. Tokyo is a fun and exciting place, but sometimes you need to refresh somewhere with a lot of greenery and fresh air. Ukai Toriyama is the perfect place to go after hiking and it serves typical and delicious Japanese cuisine, robatayaki!

Feel free to follow favy!

Ukai Toriyama

Ukai Toriyama is located in the western-most part of Tokyo, in Hachioji, near Mount Takao. It would be the perfect place to go after you spend a day trekking in the mountain. The restaurant is in a traditional thatched roof building by a river in a forested area. It is so stunningly beautiful that many couples have their wedding pictures taken there in kimonos.
Robatayaki courses consist of food being brought to you on skewers to your table. You then grill the food directly on a charcoal fire at your table. Robatayaki is a traditional Japanese cuisine style that you should definitely try while you're in Japan.
Ukai Toriyama is a wonderful restaurant to visit after hiking Mt Takao. It is also very convenient to get to as there is a shuttle bus picking you up from Takaosanguchi station taking you directly to the restaurant.
Imagine walking into a beautiful restaurant surrounded by greenery and with a gorgeous garden, and then sitting in a tatami room to enjoy a delicious course.

The lunch course (only available on weekdays) is ¥4,970. You can get many types of skewers and mountain vegetables.
For dinner, there are many types of courses to choose from, they vary between ¥6,700-¥9,500.
Some courses offer only chicken (the most affordable course), others only Japanese beef (the most expensive course) or a combination of both.
The dishes are beautiful and offer fresh and in-season vegetables with elements reminiscent of the season, such as a maple leaf in fall.
After a day of hiking and enjoying Mt. Takao's beautiful scenery, there is nothing more enjoyable than to sit around the charcoal and listening to the glistening sound of the meat cooking and the smell of the grill tickling your nose.

This restaurant is definitely worth the detour in Hachijoji, both for the stunning decor and of course the delicious typical Japanese cuisine!
